INTRODUCTION

On Friday March 27, 1964 at 5:36 pm, Alaskan time, one of the greatest geotectonic events occurred in south Alaska. With businesses just closing, schools closed and it being Good Friday, half of the Alaskan peninsula was rocked and jarred without warning. The descriptive paper that follows has been the result of research done by numerous scholars in their respective fields. In particular, the numerous autrhors whose research I have relied upon, have based many of their findings upon data collected by the United States Geological Survey.
